PE pipes are made of polyethylene in different strength classes. The most common are PE80, PE100 and PE100-RC. They differ in material strength (MRS value) and therefore in how much pressure a pipe can withstand for a given wall thickness.
MRS: the measure of strength
MRS (Minimum Required Strength) indicates the minimum strength in N/mm². PE80 reaches MRS 8.0, PE100 reaches MRS 10.0. Higher strength means: a thinner wall for the same pressure – or a higher pressure for the same wall.

What does “RC” mean?
RC stands for Resistant to Crack. PE100-RC resists slow crack growth and point loads (stones, gravel) considerably better. As a result, it can be installed without a sand bed directly in the excavation or trenchlessly – saving material and time.
Relationship with pressure rating and wall thickness
Which pressure is permissible results from the material and the wall thickness (SDR). For PE100, SDR17 corresponds to roughly PN10 and SDR11 to roughly PN16 – for PE80 the pressure rating is lower for the same wall. Details: PN10 or PN16? Pressure ratings & SDR and the terms in the glossary.
